Note: The European Domestic ferret is not a wild animal and has been domesticated far longer then many acceptable pets such as chinchillas, hamsters, domestic rats or mice, cavies, rabbits, etc.) It is listed on this site however because it is not a cat or dog, meaning that information on care may not be as available. Also there are not as many vets who are trained in working on ferrets, so in all this, they are alternative pets, even if not as 'exotic' as most.
